Terms of use

Last updated:

These are the conditions on which SohoPage is offered to its readers, to those who respond and to its contributors. Using the site means accepting them. We have kept them short enough to read in one sitting.

What SohoPage is

A publishing house for independent writers, run as an online magazine. Each contributor has a blog at an address of their own, carrying a profile, categories, stories and an RSS feed. Contributors join by invitation only; no one can sign up unprompted. Readers pay nothing and need no account.

Responding to a story

A response needs only a name and some text. Moderators review each one before it is printed, and we are free to decline or take down any response. What you write is your responsibility. In sending a response, you give us leave to print it under the story it answers, signed with the name you supplied.

Contributors’ accounts

An invitation comes with sign-in details, and those are for you alone. Whatever is published from your account is your responsibility. An account that breaches these terms or our editorial policy may be suspended or closed.

Rights in your work

Publishing on SohoPage does not transfer ownership: the work remains yours. What you grant us is permission to host, store, display and distribute it, RSS feeds included, for as long as it stays on the site and for the purpose of running the service.

It is for you to make sure you are entitled to publish what you publish, images included, and you answer for it. Ask us whenever you like to take down a story or your entire blog. Once removed it is no longer shown here, but copies already collected by feed readers or other services lie outside our reach.

Conduct

Our editorial policy applies to everyone. Beyond it, do not try to disrupt the site or overload it, do not try to get past its security or its moderation, and do not send responses or messages by automated means.

Stories may point to other websites, and profiles may point to a contributor’s own. These are plain links. What lies at the other end is not ours, and we take no responsibility for it.

Taking material down

We may take down any material, or close any blog, that breaches these terms or the editorial policy, or that the law obliges us to remove. To report a story or a response, or to make a copyright claim, write from the contact page under Reporting a story or response or Rights and permissions, including the address of the page in question.

How the service may change

SohoPage is a work in progress. Any part of it, or all of it, may be added to, altered, suspended or brought to an end, and that can happen at any time.

No warranty

SohoPage is offered “as is” and “as available”, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. We make no promise that it will always be reachable, that it will be free of errors or that it will suit any particular purpose. Each story and each response speaks for its author, not for SohoPage.

Limits on our liability

As far as the law allows, SohoPage accepts no liability for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, nor for lost data or content, arising from using the site or being unable to use it. Contributors answer for their stories; readers answer for their responses.

Revising these terms

These terms will be revised when the need arises, and the “last updated” line at the head of the page will carry the date of the latest revision. Carrying on with SohoPage once a revision is in place counts as accepting it.
